Resting, recuperating in Pontevedra. Last night’s dinner was yummy, although I did have to complain about the first glass of wine they brought me. It was a Rioja and it sucked. The second bottle (I drank it by the glass) was also a Rioja, and much better – light years better – and a delight.
We are staying at a place called La Fonda. The room is very nice, great bathroom and comfy bed. But honestly, the staff has been a bit dismissive and I wouldn’t recommend it. The walls are paper-thin, and after dinner last night (finished eating at 10:15 and got back to our room at 10:30pm), some man with a Scandinavian accent banged on our door demanding we stop talking to each other. We were not loud, just having a normal conversation. 😑
I should have handed him some ear plugs and told him to cowboy-up. 🤣
Today, we slept in a bit and went exploring. Had a nice breakfast, toured the local cathedral, and collected some stamps for our credentials from several places.
Gonna try to find somewhere with a pilgrim’s menu for tonight. I bought some amazing plumbs and mandarin oranges for snacks today… so amazing when it hasn’t been dosed with chemicals or picked green to ship across two continents!! I can also eat the bread here. Everything tastes so fresh and like it came from the farmyard next door. Probably did, actually.
Here are the pics…

We have had some fun/silly moments – like when we got “sello” (stamps for our credentials) from McDonalds and from Burger King, lol. Today, I picked up a more substantial day pack to walk with. It’s cute, paid €19 for it, so if it falls apart, doesn’t matter.
Tomorrow, we head to Caldas de Reis, staying at an Alburgue. Shipping our bags ahead, it makes the long stretches doable.
After Caldas de Reis, it’s Padrón and then the hike ends… just three more days to Santiago!!
Cheers! V-
