Because Marie talked me into hiking a shorter segment yesterday, and I have reservations in a town not far ahead, I needed a catch-up day that covered two “stages”, I took a taxi to Valença and hiked my 15 miles from there. Marie tagged along.
When we arrived at the Albergue in Porino, we learned there was a snafu on their end and there was no room at the inn, so to speak… so instead, they offered us (at the same price!) a 3 bedroom, 3 bath, fully furnished with kitchen and dining room apartment. That roughly equivalent to being upgraded from basic economy to first class on an airline, lol!! I was thrilled. Marie found fault, but hey, I am a glass half full kind of person, so I was amazed at their generosity. They could have turned us away completely.
I also missed the deadline to request shipment of my backpack but the company was kind enough to accept the request even tho I missed the deadline by an hour and a half. I love Spain. Top Santiago is the delivery service I used the entire trip,. They were awesome!
I managed to carve out some time to myself today and got the answer to some questions I’ve been asking God, (next steps, guidance, that kind of thing) and I’m grateful for that.
Sang the Lord’s Prayer in an empty medieval chapel in Porino. That was cool.
The hike was good, Mr. Blister and sister blister have not been a problem, so yeah!
Ate some awesome pilgrim meals and best of all… I have entered the land of Spanish tortillas!!! Not the flatbread thing, Spanish tortilla is like an onion/potato quiche (errr…. without cheese)… ask google, you’ll see. Cafe con letche (coffee with milk) and a slice of tortilla and I’m in absolute heaven!
Here are today’s pics…

Tomorrow has some challenges in terms of terrain, so I will let you know how it goes.
Cheers! (And HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ALEAH!)
