El Camino de Santiago 2026 – Central Portuguese Route from Porto

Day 2: Porto to Vilarinho

Great weather, I survived. Mr. Blister appeared on my right foot, even though I taped, I wrapped with wool, and I stopped right away when i first suspected a problem. I administered first aid once I arrived at the Albergue. I met up with Marie at the Albergue (we first met in the Newark airport). We’ll walk together tomorrow. This Alburgue is full of nice pilgrims.

The walk out of Porto was brutal because of the endless cobblestone paths. Google Maps took me off the Camino, but it didn’t matter, it was all urban hiking until I used a Camino app and made a short walk to join the Camino Central.

Ready to start the day
Gonna ship my pack ahead and carry only the basics in my day pack.
There is very little room to walk along the side of the very busy roads. The sidewalks and road edges are about 1/2 the width of a normal American sidewalk.
When I finally made it to the route and started seeing these yellow arrows, I have to admit, it was a huge relief.
More arrows. I trust Google Maps for general walking, but these arrows are Camino specific and are placed just where/when you need them.

Only 40 more minutes to the Alburgue. I was ready to wrap it up for the day!

The hike to a local mini market offered this view of horses and goats. Charming.

After my shower, I made a sandwich for dinner. Later, I lay down to stretch my back, and now it’s lights out, quiet time. The room is co-ed so I’m expecting some snoring, lol. I have ear plugs. I’m warm. I’m happy. I hiked 27+ cobblestone kilometers. I’m content.
